Este fotógrafo es muy buen chico, pero se hace de rogar. O amanece nublado. O no hay ganas. Entre unas cosas y otras tengo un montón de cosas terminadas y ninguna foto. Grr.

Para entretenerme mientras tanto, le hago un repaso al nuevo Moda de Pasarela, que ya está en los quioscos. Me gustaría decir que es la caña, pero no, es un poco blah, ni bueno ni malo, más bien sosainas. ¿O soy yo la que tiene dificultad entusiasmándose con patrones nuevos? Aparte, hace tiempo que noto que es el Día de la Marmota en los patrones de Simplicity: todos los tops tienen manga murciélago y/o volantitos y son anchurosos de más. Es lo que llamo “Típico Top Simplicity” (TTS).

Otra cosa que me molesta (hoy estoy chinchosa) es que las tallas están subidísimas. Oficialmente sólo hay 4 patrones de tallas Plus, pero en realidad sólo el patrón vintage viene en una 36 (que es una 40 en España, es decir, que ya me está grande), el resto empieza en la 38 (42).

Sí que hay un par de cositas que me interesan, pero lo que me molesta es que considerando que la revista sale 2/3 veces al año, por lo menos podían seleccionar cosas chulas, en vez de lo más normalito del catálogo. Os pongo un repaso rápido a los modelos con los enlaces a los patrones de Simplicity y ya me diréis qué os parece.

NL6081 – Patrón de portada: blusa, falda y pantalón

SIM2208 - Chaqueta de forro polar con o sin capuchón – esto me molesta decirlo, pero necesitaría hacerme unos cuantos del modelo con capuchón para pasar el invierno en el congelador que llamo casa.

SIM2054 - Vestido de Cynthia Rowley – con los patrones tan bonitos que tiene esta diseñadora, han tenido que elegir éste, el de los codos al descubierto (¿?).

SIM2149 - Chaqueta / chaquetón con mangas raglán – Talla Plus

NL6028 - Chaqueta estilo Chanel

NL6648 - Top con mangas murciélago – TTS I

SIM2148 - Conjunto falda, pantalón, blusa y chaqueta – Talla Plus

NL6009 - Top con pliegues o escote recogido – TTS II

2766 - Conjunto vestido, top y falda - Talla Plus

SIM2307 - Vestido con jaretas (yo no sabía lo que era una jareta hasta que compré un par de Patrones – ¿o eran lorzas?) – Colección Project Runway, descatalogado. Éste me gustaría hacerlo más corto, tipo túnica.

SIM2336 - Conjunto vestido, top, chaqueta, pantalón – Talla Plus

SIM2154 - Conjunto vintage – Aquí me pasa como con el patrón vintage del Burda, de todo el catálogo ¿por qué éste? Si, es un traje clásico de dos piezas tipo Jacqueline Kennedy y la blusita no está mal, pero es que es que no aporta nada interesante. Otra ocasión perdida.

This new photographer of mine is a good guy, but there’s always something. Oh, I forgot my camera, wait, it’s cloudy, yeah, we’ll do this later. Rrright. I have tons of things to show, but it’ll have to wait.

In the meanwhile, let’s review the latest Naaimode, you know, the mag with Simplicity and New Look patterns (IT: Modellina Facile, FR: Tendances Couture). I’d like to like it, to be enthusiastic about it, but alas. It’s not bad, it’s just blah. Or maybe I’m the one having problems getting all worked up about patterns? In any case, it’s funny how some patterns are having a Groundhog day. Today it’s tops: batwings, ruffles and very, very roomy. It’s what I call the Typical Simplicity Top (TST) and there are 3 of them in this issue *sigh*. And not to be whiny, but sizes are way up! Most patterns starts at size 38 (American 12), only the vintage pattern comes in a 36, which is already big for me.

There are just 2 patterns that really interest me, the fleece hoodie and the vintage blouse. I get all bothered about this, because this mag is issued 2 or 3 times a year, they could have selected something more interesting from their extended catalogue, not just the most boring stuff.

Aaanyway, here it is, judge for yourselves:

NL6081 – Cover pattern: pants, blouse and skirt

SIM2208 – Fleece hoodie and cardi – I don’t like to admit this, but I wouldn’t mind having a couple of those to get me through winter at the freezer I call home.

SIM2054 - Cynthia Rowley dress – considering the vast amount of cute CR patterns, they had to choose this one, the one with the elbow stuff (really, really??).

SIM2149 – Jacket, coat with raglan sleeves – Plus size pattern

SIM2154 – Vintage pattern – Here I have a problem, like I had with 10/2012 Burda. Of all the back catalogue of patterns, how is this one chosen? Sure, it’s a Jacqueline Kennedy 2 pieces classic suit and a cute blouse, but how is this interesting? Another missed chance.

Se me pasó completamente publicar la reseña del Burda de Septiembre, y eso que la tenía escrita y todo. Eso es lo que tiene no estar centrada. ¡No problem! Cada mes trae consigo la oportunidad de maravillarnos y/o horrorizarnos con las propuestas del Burda y el número de Octubre está a punto de caer. Gracias a la página rusa del Burda que está en todo, paso a hacer la reseña.

Primero lo bueno, los abrigos de otoño. En este país donde vivo, donde ni siquiera hemos tenido verano, tener dos o tres abrigos en diferentes grados de grosor no es un lujo, antes una necesidad. Lo malo es que, sinceramente, no me atrevo*. Los patrones no son el colmo de la originalidad, yo diría que tengo los mismos con ligeras variaciones en números anteriores, pero no por ello son menos bonitos.

Abrigo corto (o chaqueta larga) de inspiración militar – 2012-10-126

Abrigo con cuello bebé – 2012-10-135 (éste debe ser el patrón del diseñador del mes, porque viene aparte, pero mi ruso no llega para tanto).

Después, los vestidos de invierno. Nada para escribir a casa, como dirían los ingleses.

Vestido con cuello drapeado – 2012-10-128 – Me encanta como lo han hecho en gris, reconozco es una monería. También viene en versión camiseta.

Vestido Bernina II – 2012-10-108 Lo he llamado así porque me recuerda a aquel vestido rosa de hace unos años que podías descargate de la página de las máquinas de coser Bernina.

Ahora que he buscado la foto, no es que yo lo recuerde parecido, es que es el mismo.

Y sin más dilación, paso a los patrones raricos, los WTF, que secretamente es lo que más me gusta. Este mes destaco tres:

WTF simpático, en plan, qué cósas tiene el Burda – 2012-10-120 Este cinturón, con bolsillo (creo), y que va a aumentar la anchura de mis caderas en tres tallas. En fín, la inutilidad personificada.

WTF ya más serio – 2012-10-113 Aunque después es el tipo de cosas que veo en las pasarelas de Viktor & Rolf y hasta me gustan y todo.

WTF con cabreo pleno – 2012-10-134 – Si no me equivoco, éste es el patrón retro del mes. El mes pasado con el traje tortuga ya me reí, pero por favor, de todo el archivo de la Sra. Aenne Burda han tenido que elegir ... esto. Un abrigo sin forma ni gracia, horroroso *agacho la cabeza con una tristeza infinita*.

Aparte, hay unos patrones para coser con (imitación de) piel, que no me interesa mucho y los demás no son bonitos ni feos, simplemente blah.

La próxima reseña: Moda de Pasarela. Ya he visto en los interneses holandeses que el nuevo número está a la venta, pero todavía no he puesto mis zarpas en ella porque no la he visto en los kioskos.

*No me atrevo, es cierto, pero tengo el Mirou de Sewaholic en el punto de mira desde hace un tiempo, con ese sew-along tan completo. Aquí hay que superar miedos escénicos, hombre ya.

I completely forgot to publish the review of the September issue of Burda, I even had it written and all! That’s what happens when you’re all dispersed and out of focus. No problem! There’s a new possibility to wonder and/or cry at the October issue:

First, the good stuff, autumn coats. I live in a country where summer practically doesn’t exist, so having a few fall coats isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. I've got tons of coat patterns in my stash, but truth is, I don’t dare to sew them*. These patterns aren’t super original, I’d say I’ve seen them already in previous issues, but nevertheless they’re quite pretty.

Fitted fall coat - 2012-10-125

Military inspired short coat (or long jacket) – 2012-10-126

Coat with round collar – 2012-10-135 This must be the designer pattern of this month, but my Russian is not that good.

There are some winter dresses, but nothing to write home about.

Cowl neck dress – 2012-10-128 – Not ground-breaking, but yes, it’s pretty. It also comes as a top.

Bernina II dress – 2012-10-108 – I’m calling it like that because looks like that free pattern that I downloaded eons ago from the Bernina website and never made.

Wait, it is the same!

Scoffing Burda patterns is a hobby we all share, so without further delay, let’s see the WTF patterns.

Fun WTF – 2012-10-120 As in, cute but I don’t think I need a wide belt with a pocket and flaps making my hips huge.

A more serious WTF – 2012-10-113 Ironically, this is the kind of thing that I’d see in a Viktor & Rolf show and actually like it.

A full and angry WTF – 2012-10-134 – I’m pretty sure this is the retro pattern of the month. Last month I already had a good laugh at the turtle suit, but this isn’t funny anymore. Of all the patterns in the archive of Ms. Aenne Burda they had to choose this shapeless sack *shaking head sadly*.

What else? Some patterns to sew with (fake) fur and other blah stuff.

Next review: Naaimode (Simplicity patterns mag), which is finally on sale again, as soon as I get my paws on it.

*I have stage fright when it comes to jackets and coats, but I have been seriously considering Sewaholic’s Mirou for a while, she published a very detailed sew-along on her website. Time to woman up and tackle new challenges!

Simplicity 2250: Ballerina girl

Debería cambiarme el nombre a Procrastinación, Procras para los amigos. Incluso buscar la definición en la Wikipedia es una excusa como otra para posponer el ponerme a escribir *ains*.

El vestido de hoy lleva más de un mes terminado, las fotos ya dos semanas listas y yo que no tengo ganas de escribir. Podría echarle la culpa al verano y el calor, pero es que está lloviendo a lo diluvio universal en este momento. Asi que sin más dilación presento en sociedad el vestido Ballerina girl, patrón Simplicity SIM2250 de Cynthia Rowley.

Mira que es bonito el patrón, pero le ha caido palos virtuales por todos lados, y con razón. Paso directamen a la reseña:

Descripción del patrón:
Simplicity no es de los que se quiebran: vestido de chica en dos largos. Añado yo de mi cosecha: cuerpo drapeado con pinzas y pliegues, espalda anudada con lazo.

Talla del patrón:
Americanas 6-22. Yo he cosido la 8 (38 española).

Una vez que terminaste de coserlo, ¿se parecía a la foto/dibujo del sobre?
Dudé si ponerle el moñón atrás, pero al final fue un poco de perdidos al rio (from lost to the river). La moña lo hace 100% verano, no puedes ponerte una chaqueta encima sin que se note el bulto (léase, totalmente inapropiado para el clima holandés).

¿Fueron las instrucciones fáciles?
Si, con Simplicity las sigo al dedillo y no defraudan. Sobre todo fueron útiles para hacer el fruncido raro de la parte de atrás.

¿Qué te gusta/no te gusta específicamente?
Me gusta: estilísticamente hablando, todo. Desde que lo ví lo tenía enfilado porque este patrón grita mi nombre. Que tenga bolsillos.
No me gusta: Que las piezas del forro sean más cortas de lo que deberían (casi 5 cms!). Le cosí una tira a la parte de abajo y fui modificando sobre la marcha. Y tengo la sensación de que el forro (que no tiene pinzas ni pliegues, es súper simple) es más ajusado al cuerpo que el cuerpo de la tela en sí, como si fueran diferentes tallas. Es decir, que se queda holguero por fuera, pero por dentro está bien, esto suena raro pero es así.

¿Qué tela has usado?
Un voile de algodón que compré con Mari Cruz en Barcelona. Primero pensé en hacer el Lonsdale de Sewaholic, pero al final me decidí por este. Y los estampados siempre camuflan los errores.

¿Has cambiado algo del patrón?
No, no he cambiado nada. Aunque si lo hiciera de nuevo (que va a ser que no) le quitaría el plieguecito en este punto tan, ejem, estratégico.

¿Lo volverás a coser? ¿Lo recomiendas a otros?
No y quizás. No lo voy a volver a coser porque hay tantos vestidos por hacer. Lo recomiendo si te tomas el tiempo de hacer una prueba primero y modificar lo que haya que modificar. Los patrones de Simplicity son para una copa B, ni me quiero imaginar cómo hay que cambiar esa pieza para ajustar una delantera prominente.

Conclusión:
Pues un vestido bien apañado, con libertad de movimiento. Mas fotos haciendo el tonto en el Flickr.

Procrastination is my middle name. Or my only name, any excuse is valid to wander off onto the internets (so what's procrastination anyway? that kind of thing).

Today's dress, Simplicity Cynthia Rowley's SIM2250 was ready a month ago, photos taken a while ago and I just don't feel like writing a word. I could blame summer and nice weather, but the truth is, there's a storm going on as I write this *sigh*. So, cut it out and go on with that review already!

Pattern Description:
Misses dress in two lengths. Man, those Simplicity descriptions are lengthy, aren't they? Bodice has pleats and darts details, ties make a bow at centre back.

Pattern Sizing:
6-22. I made my usual 8.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes it did. I doubted about keeping the bow at the back, but I finally went for it, the daredevil that I am. This makes it 100% summer, you can't wear a cardi or a jacket (bump in your back!), therefore, totally unsuitable for Dutch weather.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, Simplicity is my favourite company to try new techniques because they always work out fine. In this case, they helped me through the ties, kind of shirred, construction at the back.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: stylistically speaking, everything. This pattern, bought a year ago, just screams my name. And pockets!
Dislikes: that the lining pieces are a good 5 cms. (!) shorter than expected. I just sew a strip of muslin to the bottom and winged from there. And it feels like the lining of the bodice is fitted better than the main fabric, as if the outside is roomier than the inside. Weird.

Fabric Used:
A cotton voile I bought in Barcelona with Mari Cruz. It was supposed to be a Sewaholic's Lonsdale, but just before cutting it I had a change of heart.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
No, I haven't changed anything. If I would sew it again, which I won’t, I'd skip this little pleat on such a, ahem, strategic place.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
No and maybe. I'm not going to sew it again because there are so many dresses I want to sew. I'd recommend it if you take the time to make a muslin, seriously. I don't want to imagine the nightmare if you need a FBA, there's like a million of darts/pleats at the front.

Conclusion:
A pretty fine dress, that permits freedom of movement. More silly photos at Flickr.

- Asúmelo, no me das lo que yo necesito.
- ¡Déjame intentarlo de nuevo, te lo suplico!
- Ya hemos pasado por esto antes ...
- Esta vez lo digo en serio, haré lo que me pidas.
- Te doy una última oportunidad: o haces ojales o te vas a la puta calle.

Dialogo imaginario, pero totalmente real en mi cabeza, ocurrido a principios de Junio. En un tris he estado de decirle ahí te quedas a mi máquina por el tema de los ojales. Es que no puede ser posible que semejante robustez sueca, 10 kilos de hierro puro no haga ojales, dónde se ha visto. Bueno, en realidad lo que pasaba es que yo me empeñaba en tirar de la tela hacia el lado contrario, hasta que ví la luz.

Estoooo, torpezas aparte, paso a presentar la primera prenda salida de la factoría Bullock con botones, tachán, tachán:

¡Una blusita con botones! Desde el momento que ví la tela le adjudiqué el patrón de Burda 128-09-2011. No estoy 100% contenta, no es el top perfecto que llevo buscando todo el verano, pero bueno. He aquí la reseña:

Descripción del patrón:
Según la página del Burda: ¡Minimalista para un efecto más dramático! La pequeña blusa sin mangas blanca se caracteriza por pliegues en el cuello en V y costuras de los hombros escalonados. (Google translator = la risión)

Talla del patrón:
Tallas Burda 36-44. Yo he cosido la 36.

Una vez que terminaste de coserlo, ¿se parecía a la foto/dibujo del sobre?
Sí, son básicamente iguales.

¿Fueron las instrucciones fáciles?
Sólo he leido el principio, donde se explica cómo hacer el cuello/pliegues. Crípticas para variar, pero es que no me quedaba otra. A partir de ahí, a mi bola.

¿Qué te gusta/no te gusta específicamente?
Me gusta: sobre todo que el volumen se cree con pliegues en el cuello en vez de con pinzas. La simpleza de las líneas, con aire minimalista japonés (la foto de la revista, me refiero). Que sólo use 60 cms de tela.
No me gusta: que el Burda use una copa C en los patrones y yo no sepa cómo modificarlo sin fastidiar el diseño; que el bajo a la cadera se quede estrecho de más y tenga que desabrocharm el último botón para poder sentarme; y al revés, la parte de atrás no tiene pinzas y se queda anchón y regulero.

¿Qué tela has usado?
Un algodón de cuadros en verde, morado y rosa, ¡cómo para no gustarme! Y modestia aparte, estoy un hecha un hacha casando cuadros. Los botones con forma de hoja son una monería.

¿Has cambiado algo del patrón?
No, no he cambiado apenas nada (lo he acortado un poco), pero debería haberlo hecho. Un SBA (ajuste de pecho) para empezar, añadir unos centímetros en la cadera (o dejar los laterales abiertos), unas pinzas en la espalda. Las pinzas puede que todavía lo haga, lo demás no tiene demasiado remedio.

¿Lo volverás a coser? ¿Lo recomiendas a otros?
No y quizás. No lo voy a volver a coser porque quiero probar otros patrones y hay muchos en la lista. De todas maneras no lo descarto porque el detalle de los pliegues en el cuello me encanta.
Y quizás lo recomiende porque si tienes ejem, delantera, debe quedar bastante bien. Y quizás en una tela con más caida, menos tiesa hubiera quedado mejor. No sé, estoy dudosa.

Conclusión:
Para no gustarme el resultado me la he puesto bastante, pero la búsqueda del patrón de blusa perfecto no ha terminado. Por lo menos he podido practicar los ojales, algo es algo.

- Last chance, doll: make a buttonhole or get the f*ck out of here.

This imaginary dialogue, but totally real in my head, took place back in June. I was totally feed up with my sturdy, I'm 10 kilo pure iron - no plastic parts but I'm too good to bother with buttonholes sewing machine. It's even made in Sweden for crying out loud! So I gave it one more go and miraculously it started making them like it's no big deal. Ok, the true story is: the whole time I was trying to feed the fabric in the wrong direction - ooops!

Aaanyway, clumsiness aside, the first result of my new found skills is:

A sleveless blouse full of buttons! From the moment I put my hands on this fabric I knew it was meant for this Burda pattern 128-09-2011. I'm not 100% happy, it's not the perfect woven top I've been looking for all summer, but it's quite ok. Let's review it:

Pattern Description:
From the magazine: Clean chic at its best! This simple sleeveless blouse makes a good impression, thanks to fine details like forward shoulder seams and two pleats at the fronts.

Pattern Sizing:
Burda regular sizes: 36-44. I made my usual 36.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes it did.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Burda's cryptical riddles, not apt for the uninitiated. So yes, I followed the first steps, the pleats/collar construction, because I had no choice. After that I was on my own.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: the volume is created with pleats instead of darts. The simplicity of lines, the photo in the mag has a Japanese vibe I dig. That it uses very little fabric, I could use my 60 cms remnant.
Dislikes: that Burda uses a C cup and I'm not sure how to modify it without ruining the design; that it's tight around the hips and I can't sit without bursting the last button; inversely, there's no definition at the back and it looks boxy (this I could fix sewing 2 darts and maybe I will).

Fabric Used:
A plaid cotton in green, purple and pink, what's not to like! And the plaid matching is pretty good, if I may say so myself. The buttons are leaf shaped, so cute.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
No, I haven't change much, except for the length, but I should have done a proper SBA. Also it needs a slit at the sides and darts in the back.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
No and not sure. I'm not going to sew it again because I want to try other patterns and the list is long. But who konws, I love those pleats.
Not sure I'll recommend it, perhaps if you have more stuff in the front than me. Maybe in a soft drapey fabric? I'm not really convinced.

Conclusion:
Considering I don't love it, I've worn it several times this summer. But the search of the perfect woven top is far from over.
