¿Qué haría Madonna? - WWMD?

What would Madonna do?

And the reality sinks in. I don’t have enough clothes for this challenge, I really don’t. Making an intensive (and realistic) inventory count I come up with 8 dresses (8!!) and 2 tops. That makes 10 truly wearable garments, stuff I can wear at work. But try to fill 31 days with that, yeah right. The dresses make the styling an extra challenge, because they’re quite distinctive and a different belt or stockings will not completely transform the outfit.

What to do? I already have 2 skirts in the pipeline (one already cut) and maybe 2 t-shirts if I manage to re-thread my serger in white. I don’t want to start a complicated or lengthy project, they’ll only slow me down and my time is more than limited. This means that blazers, advanced designer/vintage dresses or button based garments are out of the question. I don’t want to sew trousers because I haven’t got any remnants that are longer than 1 meter and I really want to use up my stash first. I may change this policy if I find the right fabric and price. I have enough fabric to sew a few summer dresses but March in the Netherlands is still quite chilly, and not everything can be worn with cardigans (white piqué dress, you’ll have to wait till April). On the other hand I want to sew something I really want, not just to fill up days.

This is forcing me to be resourceful and creative. I’ve gone through my pattern collection and fabric bins several times already, rediscovering little hidden gems that I bought long ago in a moment of inspiration.

Oh the dilemma of it all.

A parting shot of Madonna drying her armpits in Desperately seeking Susan, that camp masterpiece.

  1. Refashion?
